What to Expect in an Immanuel Prayer Appointment
We are excited to offer this simple but effective model of inner healing prayer based on the Immanuel Approach developed by Dr. Karl Lehman M.D. Immanuel Prayer is facilitated by a trained facilitator who will help you connect and interact with the Lord in a way that can deepen your intimacy with the Him and often process and resolve painful life experiences in a non-traumatizing way.
Below are samples of what may happen in an Immanuel Prayer session:
- We begin with an opening prayer and a time of quieting ourselves in God’s presence.
- You will then be coached to connect with the Lord by remembering a positive experience of appreciation, joy or peace. This experience may involve something significant about your faith or a time when you felt close to the Lord, or it could simply be about a joyful or peaceful experience in your life. Getting connected with Jesus and sensing that He is with you in a positive memory is the most important part of the process.
- You will be asked to share out loud about your positive memory and to amplify it and re-live it by thanking the Lord for as many details as you can imagine.
- You will be encouraged to share out loud directly with the Lord what is on your heart.
- It is important for you to describe everything that comes to mind without filtering out material you may consider unimportant. You will be coached to share whatever comes into your awareness: feelings, thoughts, images, memories, body sensations, beliefs, impressions.
- You may be asked often to return to the initial connection memory with the Lord. Staying connected to Jesus throughout the session is very important and significant part of the Immanuel healing process.
- You may be coached to ask Jesus if He would like to take you to a specific memory, or simply what He has for your healing.
- You are strongly encouraged to share everything that comes across your awareness and not edit anything out.
- You may be coached to ask Jesus questions, respond to Him or notice what you perceive from Him, etc.
- You may be invited to ask for God’s perspective regarding the issue being addressed.
- If you are having difficultly connecting with Jesus, you may be asked if you are willing to discover what is in the way. This could become the primary focus of the session.
Note: Sharing out loud helps the prayer facilitator discern how to guide you. He/she will ask permission if you are willing to do whatever he/she is guiding you to do. However you always have a choice and if at any point you feel uncomfortable, be sure to let the facilitator know.
